The Gamroth Family
The history of this portion of the Gamroth Family starts in Poppelau, Poland with Jacob Gamroth and Eva Mauska... it was their children and descendants who are represented here. I feel Clarence Gamroth did the intro best...
From Clarence J. Gamroth - The Gamroth Family 1974
In presenting here-within history on the Gamroths, I try to be as factual as possible with the admission that not much information was available. It is unfortunate that no one, including myself, took the time to record a few facts when the old Gamroths were alive. Much history about them was allowed to slip by. All that remains is to record a few items as those of the present generations remember them. I gathered information about the Gamroths from various sources including court and church records, newspapers, files, statements of current old timers who were children when the Gamroth immigrants were still alive. All in all, I had to rely on heresay evidence which I believe to be factual. Regarding data on Silesia from whence the Gamroths came, I consulted various books and periodicals, chapters in the Encyclopedia Britannica which dealt with Silesia and Poland were very helpful. In spite of the shortcomings, I hope that the data in the following pages will be of some interest to the reader. I suggest that each family develop additional data on it’s own history.
Although I think there are a few things that can be discussed for the most part Clarence hit the introduction on the head; although today with the advent of the internet, past research, and active genealogists in the family we've been able to expand the Gamroth database to well plus 1,500 individuals starting in the late 18th century. The one hiccup we continue to endure are Jacob's parents... we know that his father was more than likely named Johann but without a baptism record we're left not knowing who his mother was or which Johann was his father given there were three alive at the time of his birth living in the Poppelau, Poland area.
Below are Jacob's death record and his marriage record to Eva... they are the Patriarch and Matriarch of the family...
